So I gathered up my two best junior photographers, and finished writing up the PDF pattern so you can Download the Butt sweater. Want to see some more of their work? Be sure to check out Micah's shoes... In typical four-year-old fashion he has decided that one sneaker and one flip-flop go very nicely together. Very nicely indeed.
Happy knitting!
July 23, 2011 - Design note: I wrote the pattern with the intention that it would have a little positive ease because knits become a bit see-through when they are stretched. If you would like your skirt a little more clingy you can either use a yarn with very nice drape, or block it so that it is more narrow, or you can cast on 8 fewer stitches when you begin (multiples of eight will make sure your eyelets work out well later). Enjoy!
HA! A sweater for your butt. Nice work :-)

Love it! I have been looking for a simple skirt pattern and this may be it!

I knitted this skirt I used the measurements you gave but my waist is about 7 inches to big. When I block, can I make it more narrow? I love this little skirt and want to wear it soon!

hi Terri!
When you say your waist, do you mean your actual waist, or your skirt's waist?
I'm going to assume you mean the skirt waist is bigger, and then yes, you can block it somewhat smaller. I didn't put any decreases from the hips to the waist because they tend to form tiny holes when you knit with cotton, and nobody wants tiny holes by their butt, right?
Mine (that I'm wearing in the pics) is big in the waist too, but when I put it on and use my ribbon ties, it snugs up just fine. The shirt in the pics is a pretty thin fabric, and my waist still doesn't look bulky (I hope!)
One option would be to pull out the ribbing and knit your waist with a matching-colored wool, which likes to shrink up real nice when ribbed, but it would definately be a bit warmer I think.
Cotton also has that lovely tendancy to shrink when washed, so keep that in mind! Try blocking in and see how that goes.
If blocking doesn't work, let me know, and we can email or maybe message on ravelry if you use that, and figure it out!

I think this sweater is cute, and I'm eager to make one! Did you knit this in the round or did you go back and forth and then stitch up a seam? It doesn't look like there's a seam, but I just wanted to be sure.

Hey Lauren! It's knit in the round - I avoid extra work wherever I can!

Thanks! I'll give it a try and hope I can do it right :-)
