Ever feel like your education could use some attention? I certainly have. I've been trying to make time to read, and I love learning things alongside my children, but I just felt like I needed something more, something to really stretch my mental muscles.
I thought back to my school years, searching for something worth spending my time on. You know what stood out to me? In seventh grade I was fortunate enough to spend time at a tiny Christian school, and they made, er, encouraged us to learn a Bible chapter every month. Those verses still rattle around in my head, just when I need them.
But a whole chapter? Really? I have trouble just learning one verse now-a-days.
Which is entirely the point. My brain needs the exercise. So, I'm challenging myself to memorize all of James chapter one. I made some cards to spread out my memory work over the next 15 weeks.
James 1 is about your attitude when life isn't perfect, and about the difference between words and actions. My son gets a kick out of "testing" me at the end of the week, and my brain gets something worth having!
